This lot contains three issues of the Niles' Weekly Register reporting on the Nat Turner rebellion. The first issue quickly broke the news to Niles' national audience of the slave insurrection that began on August 21 in Southampton, Virginia. The second article is a long report of the atrocities and response from the militia drawn from newspaper reports and correspondence to Niles. The third article announces the capture and hanging of the “famous Nat Turner.”
