A finely engraved map based on a larger version by Didier Robert de Vaugondy. The colonies extend to the Illinois and Mississippi rivers, with North and South Carolina stretching to the Mississippi River. The map is filled with excellent detail of early settlements, forts, Indian villages, river systems, and topography. An inset at top left depicts the southeastern coast from Cape Fear to Fort St. George. Decorated by a rococo-style title cartouche at lower right.
