This pictorial map was issued by the Mentholatum Company and presents the "romantic epochs of California history." It is colorfully illustrated to depict important events and historical figures including "the conquistador, the cowled monk, the trapper, miner, emigrant and the state builder, each leaving his contribution to the colorful history and brilliant future of the Golden State." Flanked by panels of text documenting the state's history. Drawn by Robert T. Atchison, who produced at least 28 state historical maps for the Mentholatum Company from 1936-41.
