This sheet contains three political maps on the same scale, each with their own title beginning Carter's New Hampshire Diagraphical Chart. The first map shows the state's 12 senatorial districts, the second shows the 5 councilor districts, and the third shows 3 congressional districts. Published by The Globe Printing Company. Folds into brown cloth boards (3.5 x 6.0") with gilt title "Political Memorial of New Hampshire. 1876."

Hosea Carter was an active businessman and politician. He was born in 1834 and lived much of his life in Hampstead. He was postmaster there from 1874-79, was the commissioner for the Boston & Maine Railroad from 1876-80, and in 1876 was responsible for drawing the state's senatorial and councilor districts. Though his new maps actually gave the Republican Party a majority (8 of 12 senate seats and 4 of 5 councilor seats), Carter was a Democrat and ran for Senate District 21 in 1886. In the July 1886 edition of the Granite State Monthly, Carter was described as "remarkable for his knowledge of men and figures, and if elected to the Senate will be a heavyweight."

An unusual and scarce political map with only a few dealer listings in the last 30 years and only 2 institutional examples located.
