A. Morea, by Hondius/Bertius, from Tabularum Geographicarum Contractarum…, published 1618, hand color (5.3 x 3.8"). This handsome miniature map depicts the historic peninsula of Morea. The map is embellished with a sea monster, a moiré patterned sea, and two strapwork cartouches. French text on verso. References: King (2nd ed.) pp. 96-99; Van der Krogt (Vol. III) #7820:342. Condition: A dark impression that is slightly uneven at top with attractive color and a hint of toning. (A)
B. Morea, by Mercator/Hondius, from Atlas Minor, circa 1620, black & white (6.8 x 15.3"). This handsome small map of the southern part of Greece is engraved to illustrate rivers, mountains, forests, cities and villages. It is decorated with a strapwork title cartouche incorporating the distance scale. Latin text on verso. References: Van der Krogt (Vol. III) #7820:351; Zacharakis #1461. Condition: A nice impression with a couple minor spots. There is light dampstaining that is almost entirely confined to the margins and an edge tear in the margin at bottom left. (B+)
C. Macedonia, Epir. et Achaia, by Gerard Mercator, from Historia Mundi or Mercators Atlas..., circa 1635, black & white (6.9 x 5.6"). A fine small map covering northern Greece, Albania, and part of Macedonia. Title and distance scale are enclosed in a strapwork cartouche. This example appeared in the English edition of Mercator's Atlas Minor, which was published under the title Historia Mundi or Mercators Atlas by Michael Spark and Samuel Cartwright. After acquiring the plates to the 1607 edition of the Mercator/Hondius Atlas Minor, Sparke republished the maps with text translated into English by Wye Saltonstall. English text on verso, published between 1635-39. Reference: Van der Krogt (Vol. III) #7860:351. Condition: There is a small, light stain and light toning along the sheet edges. (B+)
