An attractive map extending from the Arabian peninsula east to India and Sri Lanka used to describe Vasco De Gama's final journey to India. De Gama was the first European to reach India by ship and became governor in 1524 but died a few months later. The map is decorated by a title cartouche symbolizing European arrival in the region with trees being chopped down and a burning village in the background.
