This map is based on Ortelius' oval map of the world with huge polar continents providing balance for the world's continents. A Northwest Passage is prominently featured. Italian text on verso.
Galle's miniature Ortelius atlas enjoyed so much success that it was copied by Pietro Marchetti for the Italian market. Marchetti's atlas based is often referred to as the plagiarized version of the Epitome. The copper plates are closely copied from those of Philip Galle's 1593 Italian edition.
