This sheet features several maps of Pacific Islands enclosed in a decorative scroll border. The upper half of the map is a fine map of the Hawaiian Islands. The other six panels show the Samoan Islands, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga, Society Islands, Marquesas Islands, and Galapagos Islands. There is excellent detail, and beneath the titles on most of the panels are the explorers who discovered each archipelago and the date when they did it. The charts were compiled from the surveys of the U.S. Exploring Expedition in 1841. This lot includes a page of text from the atlas on Polynesia.
