This title page comes from an edition of the fifth volume of Jansson's Novus Atlas published in 1657 and was engraved by Daniel van Bremden. The top panel shows a number of scenes from the Exodus including Moses holding the Ten Commandments with Aaron by his side, and a vignette showing the parting of the Red Sea. Flanking the title are two Roman figures in armor with Roman Emperor Ferdinand III directly beneath the title. In the bottom corners of the sheet are naval scenes with groups of navigators plotting their routes. The symbolism in the lower portion of the page reflects the contents of the work, which included both a sea atlas and a historical atlas of Greece. It was common practice for the decorative engraving to be printed without the atlas title, which was adhered at the time of publication - in this case, the title is blank with only the publisher's imprint is adhered to the sheet.
