Taschen directed and produced this astonishing volume collecting the complete engravings from the first nine volumes of De Bry's America series. The book includes De Bry's iconic images of native life in Virginia, Florida, Brazil, Peru, and the rest of the Western Hemisphere. All of the reproductions from the first six volumes are taken from examples in contemporary color, while the last three volumes are presented in black & white. The plates are accompanied by translations of De Bry's original texts. Edited by Michiel van Groesen, who also provides a fascinating and in-depth introduction. Additional text by historian Larry E. Tise covers the color variations of De Bry's engravings. 375 pages. Hardbound with illustrated covers and the original illustrated cardboard protective case.
