This important carto-bibliography covers maps produced between 1848 and 1857, one of the most important decades in the American history. It is the definitive reference on California Gold Rush maps and a comprehensive study of early California cartography. This edition is the Martino reprint of the rare 1942 Grabhorn Press Edition. It contains C.D. Gibbs Map of the Southern Mines, 1852, that was not included in the original edition. It includes a new introduction by Gold Rush bibliographer Gary Kurutz and an addendum by map collector Warren Heckrotte. Hardbound in beige buckram, 153 pages, illustrated. This reprint edition limited to 350 copies.
