This decorative map of the Americas comes from a 19th-century Russian teaching atlas by Russian zoologist and entomologist Julian Ivanovich Simashko, published with early printed color, with all text in Cyrillic. Reflecting Simashko's interest in zoology, the map is surrounded with hand-colored illustrations of the Western Hemisphere's flora and fauna. The map is color-coded to show elevation and includes intricate topographical detail. Three small insets zero in on Central America. Russian atlas maps such as this one are rarely seen on the market.
