Scenes of indigenous life, including cannibalism, fill the interior of this great map of eastern Brazil. Detail of place names is confined to the coastlines where the captaincies are noted. Two compass roses orient the chart with north to the right. Inset within a decorative border is a small map of Baya de Todos Los Sanctos. The large title cartouche features a male and female Brazilian. This map was originally engraved by Hondius and acquired by Blaeu in 1629 and his imprint was added next to the scales cartouche. German text on verso.
