Superb copper engraving of the southern tip of South America with the important Straits of Magellan and Le Maire well depicted. Delicately engraved with two compass roses and a pictorial title cartouche featuring a native with a feathered headdress, surveyor tools, two galleons, and three pairs of Europeans, with two of the pairs engaged in fist and knife fights.

Very early, dark impression on fine quality paper with a Strasbourg Lily watermark and a hint of toning along the sheet edges.
