A beautifully engraved chart of the Azores based on Luis Teixeira's cartographic work with three ornate title cartouches and a title banner at top center. The sea is fully engraved in stipple and features a sea monster and sailing ships. Latin text on verso, published in 1584, the first edition in which this map appeared.

Condition: B+

A dark, early impression on a sheet with the crossed arrows watermark commonly found on Ortelius maps and light dampstaining.
