This charming pictorial map focuses on the railways in the Netherlands and was created by Jan Rodrigo for the Dutch Railways (NS). The railways are outlined in red and the rivers and canals are well detailed in blue. Interspersed throughout the map are images of buildings, landmarks, costumed figures, and regional agriculture and industry. Several trains also run along the railways, including a freight train with a Class 1200 locomotive, a Blue Angel, an electric Mat '46 train, and a steam train. On verso are black and white photographic images with captions in Dutch, French, English and German that tout the picturesque nature of the Netherlands and its railways. Jan Rodrigo (1921-2013) was an illustrator and painter of city views and landscapes, and worked in the marketing department of the Dutch Railways during the 1950s.
