This is the first edition of this charming miniature atlas that contains 12 charts showing the coastlines of France and 18 bird's-eye plans of important port cities in France. The first charts is a general map of France that focuses on the coastlines and major rivers, and serves as a key illustrating the locations of the remaining maps in the atlas. There are 6 charts of the Atlantic coast, 2 charts of the Mediterranean coast, and 3 charts of islands, all of which are in contemporary color. These charts show navigable waterways, depth soundings, rocks, shoals, and identify coastal cities. The bird's-eye plans are in black and white and illustrate fortifications, roads, buildings and the surrounding countryside. Included are the cities of Dunkerque, Calais, Boulogne, Dieppe, le Havre, St. Malo, Brest, l'Orient, Port Louis, Nantes, S. Martin, La Rochelle, Rochefort, Oleron, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Marseille, and Toulon. A short description of each of the cities is included in the introductory text. The title page was engraved by L. Legrand and features a vignette with Neptune and a windhead. 24mo, title page, 2-page preface by Bellin (dated 1762), table of charts, 16-page description of cities, 30 maps, and 4-page catalog of other maps offered by Lattre.
