This rare atlas focuses on the theater of war in northwestern Italy and includes 23 double-page maps, a detailed index of locations within the maps, and a decorative title page. The first map shows the entire region from Nice, France to La Spezia, and as far north as the border with Switzerland. This map serves as an index for the remaining maps and is divided into a grid with 24 numbered squares, which correspond to the 22 numbered maps in the volume (the last two squares are simply part of the Mediterranean Sea and were therefore not included as individual maps). The remaining maps give detailed views of the region with cities, roads, boundaries, rivers, and three-dimensional topography. The title page is filled with military imagery, including two Italian soldiers. Published by Dezauche and Buache. Small quarto with title page, index and 23 maps. Hardbound in full leather with raised bands, gilt tooling and red leather title label on spine; includes original blue ribbon page marker.
