This map shows the Retreat of the 10,000, a military force gathered by Cyrus the Younger, who ruled Lydia and Ionia in present-day Turkey, to take the throne of the Persian Empire from his brother, Artaxerxes II. The map is based on the history of Cyrus as told by Xenophon. It covers the area from Greece and Cyprus to Armenia and the Caspian Sea. There is nice detail of the coastline, mountains, and ancient place names.
