This photographic portrait of future president Lyndon B. Johnson was signed by Johnson on May 29, 1951 in Washington, D.C., during his time as the majority whip for the Senate Democrats. It is addressed to Ann and Gene Worley "with the love and respect of their friend." At the time, Eugene Worley (1908-74) was serving as an associate judge of the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals. Johnson and Worley served overlapping terms as part of the Texas congressional delegation. The hand-written inscription and signature appear beneath a 10.4 x 13.5" color photograph mounted to a matboard.
Provenance: from the estate of Eugene Worley, member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas's 18th district (1941-50), chief judge of the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals (1959-72), and senior judge of the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals (1972-74).
