The maps, atlases, portolan charts, and globes chosen for this scholarly volume were selected to reveal the European discovery of the world, the history of the world's lifting its veil to explorers and mapmakers. The works are from the Sidney R. Knafel Collection, which covers the years 1434 to 1865. 203 pages, illustrated with 25 color plates. Hardbound in simulated leather with gilt lettering and pictorial dust jacket. Published by World Scientific Publishing, 1992.
