This is the first geological map of Nova Scotia, with a particular emphasis on the composition of the western part of the island. A key at left identifies 14 different geological types including clay, gypsum, coal, limestone, granite and more. A geological section at bottom extends from North Mountain east to Halifax Harbor, a distance of about 60 miles. The map was issued in Charles Jackson and Francis Alger's 25-page A Description of the Mineralogy and Geology of a Part of Nova Scotia. The report is offered as part of the complete 196-page issue of The American Journal of Science. According to Marcou, the map was also issued in the 1832 Memoirs of the American Academy of Sciences.
