This 384-page guide by T.B. Mills & Company serves as both an emigrant guide and a summary of findings from about 100 newspaper editors who traveled the state. Because “for many years the most false and infamous reports have gone abroad concerning this State,” the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railroad along with a real estate developer devised a plan to invite newspaper editors to visit and “become aware of the correct status here, that great good would be accomplished, for the people would believe the reports made by their home editors.” (p. 149). The volume is illustrated by three folding maps including: New Township Map of the State of Arkansas (15.0 x 14.3"), Geological Map of Arkansas Accompanying Dr. G. W. Lawrence's Report on Medical Climatology [and] Hy-Anemotic and Geological Map of Arkansas... (23.6 x 11.8"), and a Hyetal Chart..., (18.3 x 9.3"). Includes 20 pages of German text at the end of the volume. Pictorial wrappers show Arkansas "Then and Now" with "A Warm Welcome, Rich Lands, Low Taxes, A Good Climate."

Condition: B+
The three maps are clean, bright and fine. Text is very good with pleasant light toning. Paper wrappers are heavily chipped, soiled and worn.
