This 408-page volume was written by Captain Edward C. Boynton and published by D. Van Nostrand in New York. It was “designed to supply a want which all interested in the antecedents of the Post, or in the origin and progress of the United States Military Academy, have long desired to see supplied.” The volume features 36 illustrations including a facsimile colored panoramic view of the Hudson River (31.3 x 6”) by Bien that serves as the frontispiece and a single-page colored plate. There are two folding maps including a facsimile Plan of West Point (15.5 x 11.5”) copied from the original map of Major Villefranche, and 1863 West Point. (13.75 x 9.25”) with a legend locating 20 different points on the grounds. First edition. Hardbound in quarter leather with tips over marbled boards.

Condition: B+

Contents are very good to near fine with some light toning and an occasional spot of foxing. The "Plan of West Point" has a 1.5" fold separation at bottom that has been closed on verso with archival materials. Front hinge is starting. Binding has average shelf wear.
