Currier and Ives was a printmaking company based in New York City from 1834-1907, producing black and white lithographs that were hand colored. The focus of their work was American life, cities, and people, and they often employed celebrated artists of the day to render drawings to be reproduced in print form. In this lovely folio-sized view, Bedlow's Island, Governor's Island, and Manhattan can be seen in the background, as viewed from Long Island. The bucolic scene on Long Island includes a Gothic Revival style mansion, ladies in a horse-drawn carriage, and a man picking fruit from a tree. Several locations in the view are listed at bottom. This view was created by Fanny F. Palmer. Sheet size measures 23.4 x 18.4".
