This elegantly engraved map, a collaboration between Maas and the Homann Heirs, shows the Caspian Sea and its surroundings. It spans from the Volga River south to Kandahar. Political divisions are delineated, several towns and cities are named, roads are traced, and the topography and waterways of the region are rendered in fine detail. The sea itself includes soundings. Numerous encampments are shown in present-day Kazakhstan. The decorative title cartouche features figures that reflect the meeting of Eastern and Western culture in the region.

A nice impression with full contemporary color on a watermarked sheet with light soiling, a printer's crease along the centerfold, some dampstains along the edges of the sheet, and archival repairs to a couple of short edge tears at bottom.
