This facsimile of the first German edition of Geographisch Handtbuch by Matthias von Kinckelbach Quad (originally published in Cologne in 1600) is part of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum Series of Atlases in Facsimile Fourth Series - Volume VI. Quad's landmark publication was the first world atlas produced by a German. It features 82 distinctive black & white double-page maps that were originally engraved by Johannes Bussemacher. The volume includes an introduction in both English and German by cartographic historian Wilhelm Bonacker, who died soon after correcting the proofs. Published in the U.S.A. by Rand McNally & Company and distributed by George Philip & Son Ltd. in Great Britain and the Commonwealth. Small folio, red cloth covered boards with gilt insignia on the cover and title on spine, and an illustrated dust jacket.
