A nice set of maps showing the development of North America and the young United States:

A. Map of America with the Latest Discoveries, by Cadell & Davies, dated 1797, black & white (9.0 x 7.9"). A nice map of the Western Hemisphere showing showing the young United States extending to the Mississippi River. A few cities are noted along the east coast including Savannah, Charleston, Williamsburg, Philadelphia and Boston. Further west, a speculative West R. connects the Pacific Ocean to Hudson Bay. Condition: Issued folding with light offsetting. (B+)

B. A Map of North America from the Latest Discoveries, by Thomas & Andrews, dated 1806, hand color (7.3 x 5.8"). A small map of North America filled with places names. The United States is confined to east of the Mississippi River, which is connected to a River of the West linking it to the Pacific Ocean. Florida is divided between East & West, Texas is named in New Spain, and Quivira is located in the Pacific Northwest. Condition: Issued folding with some foxing, light offsetting, and a couple of fold separations that have been closed on verso with archival tape. (B)

C. North America, by Alexander Findlay, circa 1836, black & white (7.9 x 10.1"). A detailed map of North America surrounded by a decorative frame border. The United States is shown extending to the Rocky Mountains with Texas named and part of Mexico. In New California, two speculative rivers (R.S. Francisco and R.S. Buenaventura) extend across the Great Basin to the Pacific Ocean. Condition: A crisp impression on a mostly clean sheet. A tiny edge tear in the right blank margin has been closed on verso with archival tape. (A)
