This densely engraved map shows the theater of war in central Europe, extending from the Rhine River in the west to the Po River in the south, and as far east as Bratislava. The map was created to depict the War of Spanish Succession, and in particular the Battle of Blenheim on 13 August 1704 in which the Franco Bavarian army was defeated. This battle was key in shifting the momentum of the war in favor of the Grand Alliance. The map is filled with hundreds of tiny towns and has good detail of the river systems. Battle sites are indicated with crossed swords. The superb title cartouche features the Duke of Marlborough, one of the heroes of the Battle of Blenheim, meeting with other commanding officers, who bring battle maps. Fire, smoke and a destroyed battle ground can be seen in the background.

A nice impression with very light soiling, an archivally repaired centerfold separation at bottom, and some old manuscript ink notation along the sides of the sheet, entering the border at right.
