This attractive map presents the continent with Sanson's characteristic attention to detail. It updates Sanson's map of 1650 with a more accurate rendition of the watersheds throughout the continent. However, the mythical Lac de Parime still appears with the legendary Manoa el Dorado (city of gold) on its western shore. There is considerable detail of towns and cities and the capitanias are delineated along the coast in Brazil. The large decorative title cartouche is flanked by two pretty maidens.

A nice impression with contemporary outline color on a bright sheet with a watermark of the royal French coat of arms. There is light soiling, a 1" stain in the Pacific, faint toning along the centerfold and edges of the sheet, and dampstains along the top edge of the sheet.
