This bird's-eye view of ancient Rome focuses on monuments and archaeological sites found in and around the city. This view is based on Pirro Ligorio's famous map of 1552. Ligorio, an architect, painter and antiquarian, attempted to re-create a full picture of ancient Rome during the reign of Caesar Augustus.
