This rare and intricate plan view of Venice was published in conjunction with the third International Geographical Congress in 1881. As one might expect from a plan published for a conference of geographers, the city is laid out in fine detail, with keys at top right identifying churches and various buildings of note. Examples of the city's major architectural accomplishments are rendered in small but impressive illustrations. An inset at top right zooms out to cover the entire Venetian Lagoon. District boundaries and ferry routes are also delineated. Folds into stiff paperboard covers with an itinerary of events on the pastedown. Additional information on verso.
