A. The European Discovery of America - The Northern Voyages A.D. 500-1600, by Samuel Eliot Morison, published 1971, printed color (6.3 x 9.3"). In this fascinating book, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Morison chronicles the voyages of various explorers across the North Atlantic to the New World prior to 1600. Leif Ericsson, John Cabot, Verrazzano, Martin Frobisher, and Sir Walter Raleigh are among the explorers discussed in the book. The book devotes attention to "tales of lands that never were," including Antilia and the Seven Cities, Hy-Brasil, and the "discoveries" of the Zeno brothers of Venice. It is illustrated with black & white maps, photographs, drawings, and etchings. 712 pages. Hardbound in rust and navy cloth, with gilt title on spine. Condition: Contents are near fine with a few very minor creased corners. Covers are slightly bumped with minor soil along the spine. Dust jacket has a few spots and light wear and tear, with a few tears repaired with tape.

B. 1493 Uncovering the New World Columbus Created, by Charles C. Mann, published 2011, black & white (6.6 x 9.6"). This interesting book makes a compelling case for the ways in which the so-called Columbian Exchange changed the course of human history. 535 pages. Hardbound with gilt title on spine and an illustrated dust jacket. Condition: Near fine.
