This handsome, detailed map covering the southern part of the continent is based on the cartography of Delisle and the information gleaned from the voyages of Brouwer, Narbouroug, and Beauchesne. Filled with information of settlements, missions, forests, rivers, volcanoes, and mountains. The decorative title cartouche incorporates an erupting volcano. This is an unusual example with an inset chart of the Strait of Magellan, instead of the more typical inset of the city of Santiago.

A nice impression with contemporary color in the map and later color in the cartouche, on watermarked paper. There is light dampstaining and soiling, an extraneous crease, a tiny hole in the bottom border, and faint foxing.
