This rare and unusual decorative map is from Michael Drayton's Poly-Olbion, a romanticized, poetic topography of England. It shows Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire in southwestern Wales. Carmarthen, Milford Haven, and other towns and cities are identified. The landscape teems with allegorical figures: huntresses guard forests; shepherds stand atop the hills; numerous nymphs spring from the various rivers and waterways. Small islands are located off the coast, each with a towering female figure lording over the domain. Engraved by William Hole.
