This volume of The American Register features two long extracts from journals on the explorations of the Louisiana Purchase. The 39-page excerpt by Zebulon Pike entitled An Account of a Voyage Up the Mississippi River, from St. Louis, to its Source concerned the northern region and predated the publication of his 1810 Account of Expedition. Pike’s first expedition was in search of the source of the Mississippi River that he erroneously reported as Cass Lake. The 38-page Observations Made in a Voyage Commencing at St. Catharine's Landing, was taken from the Hunter-Dunbar expedition, which examined the southern region along the Washita River. 400 pages. Hardbound in quarter leather over marbled boards.
