A. Collections of Maps and Atlases in the Netherlands - Their History and Present State, by Dr. Ir C. Koeman, published 1961 (6.4 x 9.7"). This terrific reference collates information on maps and atlases in libraries and collections of the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries; a chapter on Frederik Muller, the important Dutch antiquarian bookseller; a bibliography of atlases published in the Netherlands before 1800; an inquiry into the map and atlas resources of the Netherlands; and a list of map and atlas collections in the Netherlands. It includes two fold-out charts depicting the relationship and succession of Dutch cartographers and their works along with five plates. 301 pages, hardbound in blue cloth covers with gilt title on front cover and spine. Condition: Contents are clean. Covers have slightly bumped corners and minor shelf wear and soiling. The spine is lightly sunned. (B+)

B. The Oldest Maps of the Netherlands - An Illustrated and Annotated Carto-Bibliography of the 16th Century Maps of the XVII Provinces, by H.A.M. van der Heijden, published 1987 (7.0 x 9.8"). This thorough carto-bibliography details 50 early maps of the Netherlands, spanning from Jan van Hoirne's map of 1526, which only survives in fragments, to a 1599 map of Germaniae Inferioris published by Jacob Cornelisz Vennecool. Preceding the carto-bibliography is a fine overview of the history of cartography in the region. Illustrated throughout with black & white reproductions of the maps discussed. 230 pages. Hardbound in dark green cloth with gilt title on spine and an illustrated dust jacket protected by Mylar. Condition: Contents are clean and tight. Spine of the dust jacket is lightly sunned. (A)
