This large map by the Mapping Department of United Gas Corporation captures the impressive scope of the company's gas lines in the Gulf Coast region. It spans from Laredo to Pensacola and extends as far north as northern Mississippi. United Gas pipelines are depicted in green, with expansions, complete and in progress, in red. Related foreign gas lines are shown in yellow, orange, and blue. The legend also identifies gasoline and cycling plants, city gate deliveries, government installations, and gas and oil fields. At the time of the map's publication, United Gas owned and operated an extensive network of more than 9,000 field and transmission line and distributed gas to more than 300 towns and cities in the region. United Gas' oil empire in the south came to a close in 1968, after a hostile takeover by Pennzoil.
