This 24-page brochure was published by the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce and promoted recently discovered gold in the Tanana Valley. The inside rear cover states “Alaska’s gold-bearing area is more than four times as great as California’s. It’s development has just begun.” The rear cover features a small map (7 x 5”) presenting 3 different routes from Seattle to the Tanana Valley with additional railroads identified running from the Gulf of Alaska to the interior. Contents include numerous photographic illustrations with centerfold “Fairbanks, Five Years Old, Largest City of Alaska. Its Future Growth Promises to Exceed it Past.” Front cover depicts a prospector panning for gold. This exceptionally detailed and well-crafted promotional piece was issued during the height of the Tanana Valley gold rush during which Fairbanks was founded. We found no past sales records and only 3 institutional examples on OCLC.
