This large and remarkably detailed map delineates the progress of public surveys throughout the state on a scale of 18 miles per inch. About one-third of the state, in the north and east, remains unsurveyed. Signed in the plate by John C. Hays, U.S. Surveyor General of California.

Unusually clean and bright with a binder's trim into the border at left, as issued. This is one of the nicest examples of this map we have encountered. Please note that faint toning along the folds appears more pronounced on the scanned image than on the physical map itself.
