Drawn by Charles Graham, this large, intricately detailed view of New Orleans spans all the way to Lake Pontchartrain in the distance. It shows the city from the vantage point of the Mississippi River, which is filled with watercraft. Among the sites prominently located are Jackson Square, the French Quarter, Lafayette Square, the Lee Monument, and the World's Fair grounds for the World Cotton Centennial of 1884. Plumes of smoke throughout the map suggest industry and bustle. Published as a supplement to the December 13, 1884 edition of Harper's Weekly. This example is mounted on linen.
