This delightful children's atlas includes eight imaginary maps illustrated by Gilbert Pownall with explanatory text by Dion Clayton Calthrop. The book is dedicated "To All Good Children" and evokes childhood fantasies and romance with maps of Fairy Land, Redindiana, Pirate Island, the Railway Map, Explorers' Country, the Broad Highway, the Forty Isles, and the Market Town. The map of Fairy Land includes traditional fairy tale characters, such as a fairy queen, elves, giants, dragons, wizards, and a fairy godmother. Redindiana is an amalgamation of imagery from the United States, including Native Americans, bison, stage coach routes, log cabins, and trapper's camps. Each map is accompanied by a full page of text. Hardbound with illustrated front cover and publisher's logo printed on back cover. Published by William Heinemann Ltd.
