This elegantly engraved map of Switzerland centers on Lucerne and extends to include Liechtenstein and neighboring parts of France, Germany, Austria, and Italy. It features terrific detail of the region's lakes and topography. There are 33 coats of arms representing the various cantons and provinces at top right. The title appears on a skinned animal hoisted by two rugged figures. Drawn after Hans Conrad Gyger (1599-1674), a Swiss cartographer best known for his groundbreaking 1667 hand-painted map of the Zurich canton - a project that took 38 years to complete! Published by Johann Ludwig Gottfried.
