This early guidebook of San Francisco was published by Frederic DeWitt. The 144 pages of text are augmented by a number of single-page plates (mainly important buildings), a double-page A Bird’s-Eye View of the Business Center of San Francisco, and a small color folding map of the whole city locating street car lines entitled DeWitt’s Indexed Map of San Francisco. The accompanying text describes many locations, including the city's morgue (not a location typically highlighted in a travel guide!). The text also reassures tourists that “earthquakes are of rare occurrence.” Second edition. We found no past sales records or institutional examples on OCLC for this second edition. Paper covers.
