This promotional atlas of New York City was published by Walter F. Barnes, “Manufacturer of Desks, Chairs and Office Furniture Also Special Cabinet Work of All Kinds.” The maps were produced by C.S. Hammond and feature 8 single-page maps, 4 double-page maps, and 2 additional maps (Jersey City and Newark) on the inside of the wrappers. Double-page maps include Queens, Western Suburbs (New Jersey), Brooklyn – North Part, and Brooklyn – South Part. Each map is detailed with place names, roads, railroads, and the nascent subway system is depicted in the city. No institutional examples of this atlas appear in OCLC, but it is clear that, despite including 4 pages of illustrated ads for his furniture store, Barnes saw it as more than just an advertisement. A line on the front cover states: “This atlas will be mailed to any address on receipt of 25 cents.” OCLC does show that Hammond began publishing a 16-page NYC atlas in 1907 similar to this one. Decorative paper wrappers.
