This rare and lovely pictorial map of the Loire Valley is by French graphic artist Jacques Liozu (1910-74). It traces the Loire River from Orleans to Saumur, identifying several towns and cities along the way, including Tours, Blois, and Amboise. The landscape is full of illustrations of notable chateaux and people sightseeing or happily at work in pastoral scenes. The map is further decorated by an old-fashioned strapwork title cartouche flanked by two women of the valley and an ornate compass rose. Liozu designed a series of maps of French administrative divisions for Ode in 1951, including one of Val de Loire; this redesigned smaller map of the region is much rarer. Published by Favre Editions.
