This large and uncommon sea chart focuses on the coast near Bordeaux, where the Gironde Estuary meets the Atlantic Ocean. The coastline is filled with dunes, a few villages, castles and other buildings. Central on the map is the Cordouan lighthouse, which is the oldest lighthouse in France. Rhumb lines fill the map emanating from a fine compass rose, orienting north to the right. There are numerous navigational notes, and a small legend at top center identifies rocks and sand bars that are visible at low tide. The large map is printed on heavy-weight paper and blue-backed for marine use. This chart was made by Gerard Hulst van Keulen, the last in the long line of cartographers from this famous Dutch firm.

Condition: B+
A nice impression, issued folding with light soiling and a bit of foxing along folds. Overall remarkable condition for a large, working sea chart.
