This terrific pictorial map of Italy was designed by Aldo Cigheri (1909-95), an Italian painter and graphic artist who contributed greatly to the visual language of advertising in Italy, especially in his work for the tourism industry. It was created for raincoat brand Impermeabile San Giorgio. Each province is accompanied by an illustration of a figure in vibrant regional dress. Various monuments also pepper the landscape. The map is further decorated by a cartouche advertising the brand, a sailing ship, and an ornate compass rose capped with fleur-de-lis. Tables at right and bottom list locations where Impermeabile San Giorgio's raincoats are sold. The verso features black & white photographs and Italian text describing the country's clothing traditions.
