It covers the great mapmaker's life, achievements, and relationships with Gemma Frisius, Charles V, John Dee, and Abraham Ortelius. Black & white illustrations appear throughout the text. 291 pages. Hardbound in brown boards with an illustrated dust jacket. Condition: Like new. (A+)

B. New Worlds - Maps from the Age of Discovery, by Ashley & Miles Baynton-Williams, published 2006, printed color (14.4 x 17.3"). This impressive volume chronicles the exploration of the world through more than 120 maps, ranging from a circular map of the world published in the Rudimentum Novitiorum (1475) to Fred W. Rose's "serio-comic" map of Europe (1899). Each entry is accompanied by an illustration of the map, often in color, and contextualizing prose. 224 pages.
