A. Strait Through: Magellan to Cook & the Pacific - An Illustrated History, by John Delaney, published 2010 (8.5 x 11.0"). This fascinating book on the exploration of the Pacific was published by Princeton University Library to accompany an exhibition of historic maps and rare books in Firestone Library that lasted from July 2010 to January 2011. It features chapters on the mapping of the Strait of Magellan, the Pacific Ocean, and the Spice Island; ten explorers of the region, from Magellan to Cook; and a trio of classic literary works (Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver's Travels, and Rime of the Ancient Mariner). The book is illustrated throughout with images in black & white and color. A foldout table in the back of the book provides a chronology of European exploration of the Pacific. Only 1200 copies of this book were printed. 205 pages. Illustrated soft covers. Condition: Like new. (A+)

B. Mapping the New World - Renaissance Maps from the American Museum in Britain, by Anne Armitage & Laura Beresford, published 2013 (9.6 x 11.4"). This handsome volume showcases more than 50 maps from the collection of the American Museum in Britain. The maps were selected from the collection of the museum's co-founder Dr. Dallas Pratt. The book is lavishly illustrated, with several of the maps depicted in color. Written by Armitage, the museum's former Librarian and Editor, and Beresford, its Curator. Published by Scala Arts & Heritage Publishers Ltd. 128 pages. Soft illustrated covers. Condition: Contents are near fine. Covers have minor shelf wear. (A)
